Overview
In leave-on skincare, dermal-limit standards drive most of the dosage envelope; in rinse-off products (shampoos, body-wash), levels can be 3–10× higher. Bakuchiol has become the industry-standard plant retinol alternative, with published efficacy data supporting 0.5–1% as the working range. Essential oils are used at fractions of a percent, both for fragrance and functional benefit.
How it's used
- Oil-soluble botanicals are pre-dissolved in the oil phase (esters, plant oils) before emulsification.
- For sensitive-skin claims, actives like bakuchiol are usually paired with soothers (bisabolol, panthenol) and antioxidants (tocopherol).
- Percentages are w/w of the finished formulation.
